I worked on top of this creepy photo I found of female patients at the Salpetriere hospital outside of Paris. The photo was taken in the 1890s at an event the hospital staged every year called ‘le bal des folles’ (meaning the ball of the mad) and I was so freaked out by all those ghostly faces that I used white acrylic, black ink and pen to make the faces even more alien and strange.
